Europe Study Abroad Adventure! 🇮🇹✈️

This trip is designed to give our families an incredible opportunity to experience Europe together—not just as tourists, but through culture, history, food, art, architecture, and hands-on learning.

Our adventure will take us through Italy, with time in Naples, Sperlonga, Verona, Tuscany, and Rome before returning to Lisbon. We have an 8 family maximum for this trip so we will be full before you know it.

🇵🇹 Naples, Italy — Arrival & Exploration

We’ll begin our adventure in beautiful Naples. Families can explore the historic streets of Naples, learn about volcanoes and geology while visiting Mount Vesuvius, and step back in time at the ancient city of Pompeii. Experience Roman history firsthand and discover fascinating artifacts at the Naples Archaeological Museum, explore the underground tunnels beneath the city, and even learn the art of making authentic Neapolitan pizza.

🏖️ Sperlonga, ITALY — Vacation from the Vacation

Sperlonga is a beautiful seaside town along Italy’s Tyrrhenian coast, known for its whitewashed buildings, winding streets, sandy beaches, and stunning views of the Mediterranean. It is a slower-paced stop that gives families a chance to experience a more relaxed side of Italy while still having plenty of opportunities for hands-on learning and exploration.

🇮🇹 VERONA, ITALY — History, Romance & Shakespeare

From Lisbon, we’ll travel to Verona, one of Italy’s most beautiful historic cities.

Students will experience the incredible architecture, historic streets, Italian culture, and the city famously connected to Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet.

This portion of the trip will give students an opportunity to experience what it’s like to walk through a city with thousands of years of history surrounding them.

🌻 TUSCANY, ITALY — Countryside, Food & Culture

Next, we’ll head into the Tuscan countryside.

This will be a slower-paced portion of our adventure where families can experience the beauty of rural Italy, traditional food, vineyards and farms, historic villages, and the incredible landscape Tuscany is known for.

This portion will be especially focused on Italian culture, food, agriculture, and the history of the region.

🏛️ ROME, ITALY — Ancient History & the Heart of Italy

Our final Italian destination will be Rome!

Students will have the opportunity to experience some of the most significant historical and cultural sites in the world, from ancient Roman history to Renaissance and Catholic art and architecture.

Rome will be a huge highlight of the educational portion of our trip, with opportunities to visit museums, historic landmarks, archaeological sites, and more.

We will also coordinate group transportation and logistics as much as possible to make traveling as a large homeschool group easier and more affordable.

🎟️ WHAT IS NOT INCLUDED?

Excursions,day trips, museum admissions, tours, special experiences, meals, and other optional activities are not included in the base trip price.

Instead, we will be organizing these experiences as a group whenever possible.

Beginning in the new year, we will start purchasing excursions, museum tickets, tours, and other group experiences.

The goal is to secure group rates whenever available, allowing interested families to participate without requiring every family to purchase every activity.

You will be able to choose which experiences your family wants to participate in.

🇮🇹 BONUS: FREE ITALIAN CLASS FOR STUDY ABROAD STUDENTS!

We’re excited to offer an additional opportunity for all of our Study Abroad Adventure students!

Beginning in January of 2027, participating students are invited to join a FREE Italian language class on Wednesdays at Freedom Friends Homeschool Co-opas part of their study-abroad experience at 1:00-2:00pm each week.

We want the learning to begin long before we board the plane! ✈️🇮🇹

Italy trip FAQs

How is pricing set for a smaller party (just two travelers)?

Advertised rates are built around families of three or four so lodging can be shared more efficiently. For two travelers, pricing is quoted separately and is higher per person because the same rooms and transfers are spread across fewer people. Final numbers can still move as the group grows — if we lock better group rates after you pay, any difference would be refunded.

Does the trip price include flights from the U.S. and travel between destinations?

Yes. The per-person price is designed to cover major transportation: round-trip airfare from the U.S. to our starting city in Europe, flights or trains between the countries and regions on the itinerary, and the main transfers that get the group from station or airport to the area where we are staying. Short last-mile rides (a subway hop, a taxi to a specific door, a ride that cannot be booked far in advance) are usually split among whoever is traveling that day rather than prepaid.

What kind of places will we stay? Will we have our own room?

We look for large vacation homes, apartments, and small hotels or winery-style stays so the group can be together without feeling packed in. Families are given their own bedroom or private sleeping space whenever possible. Kitchens, living rooms, and bathrooms are often shared — but the goal is space, not cramped hostel energy. Privacy for sleeping, togetherness for meals and evenings.

Is the deposit refundable? What if plans change after we pay in full?

A deposit holds your spots and is applied toward the trip total. Because parts of the trip (airfare blocks, lodging, group transport) are paid early and are often non-refundable at the group rate, half of the trips cost would be considered forfeited if you pay in full and decide to cancel. Those paying off the full trip in monthly installments will not be eligible for a refund of any kind. Full cancellation and refund terms live in the written travel agreement you would receive before paying anything beyond the deposit.

What’s included for getting us to the house, hotel, or station?

Structured group arrivals, departures, and the big connections (for example, a train from one region to the next) are part of the trip price. Smaller, last-minute, or door-to-door rides that depend on the exact address of a rental are usually handled together on the ground. Personal Ubers, extra taxis, and anything outside the planned itinerary stay separate. The simple version: get yourselves to the starting airport; (in Florida) once the group trip begins, the major flights, trains, and lodging are covered.

What is still flexible?

Exact properties, some daily timing, optional add-ons, and final group pricing can shift (insignificantly) as more families join and as we confirm vendors. The bones stay the same: one cross country trip, family-style stays, major travel included, private sleeping space for families of 1-4 and more private space for larger families.

What if I want to book my own overseas travel? What if I have a lap infant?

Whether your family chooses to book your own overseas airfare or you are traveling with a lap infant, the same credit applies: $500 per traveler will be provided as a travel credit toward your trip. Anyone not requiring round trip plane ticket incurs this credit.
